Alcudia


Port d'Alcudia is a resort in the northern part of Majorca, which is situated on a lengthy bay area where the white sand beach stretches on endlessly. The magnificent beach is a main attraction and tourists from a variety of European locations frequent the resort regularly for the relaxed atmosphere and luxury Majorca holidays. Two miles north of the port is the old town of Alcudia, where visitors can explore the history of the area and take in some cultural attractions. Port d'Alcudia is also within close proximity to it's neighbouring resort Playa de Muro, which also offers a variety of attractions to visitors.

The majority of activities in Alcudia are beach or water related, due to the resorts magnificent five-mile stretch of beach. Water sports like scuba diving, snorkelling, banana rides and boat trips are all available in addition to some kayaking and surfing opportunities. Squash and tennis are also available on the resort and some of the attractions near the resort include horse riding, go-karting and a nearby water park. Sailing and boat trips to some beautiful locations are also an option to visitors wishing to explore the islands, including the chance to snorkel in the beautiful Formentor promontory. If you prefer more adventurous activities it's worth taking a trip to the mountain ranges to the west of the island and for a cultural day trip visitors can try the mountain village of Lluc, or the old town of Alcudia and Pollenca to see some historical and cultural treasures.

Alcudia has some small shopping areas dotted around the resort and a variety of tourist and trinket shops line the beach road. Playa de Muro just opposite Port d'Alcudia is a shopper's paradise with a selection of boutiques, designer shops and an upmarket shopping centre. There is also an excellent choice in good supermarkets, which stock cheap alcohol and cigarettes and most of the well-known brands in produce. In addition there are many local markets, which are open Sunday and Tuesday mornings. Porcelain and leather goods are traditional good buys, but the may have to haggle for the best prices.

The resort also offers a variety of restaurants; most cater mainly to the British market, in the form of cafes and fast food restaurants. However there is also a wide range of Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants and for some exceptional culinary delights visitors should try the stylish Spanish, seafood or French restaurants in the harbour.

The nightlife in Alcudia is lively, with several bars and small nightclubs for visitors to have good time in. Many of the hotels and bars also offer some alternative entertainment with flamenco dancers and a range of comedians to suit every taste. However this is not a resort for people who enjoy the serious clubbing scene, it's more focussed on fun and entertainment than hardcore clubbing.
